International cooperation is one of the priorities of the FSBI NMRRC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, which helps to maintain a high level of staff qualification, improve health care quality, as well as develop high-potential research areas of oncology, radiology and urology. International activities also contribute to establishing and maintaining the Center's contacts with educational, scientific and medical institutions abroad, international and national organizations, societies and associations.
Main activity areas:
The Center's cooperation with international organizations is based on expert activities, data exchange, as well as participation in various events and symposiums. International partners of The FSBI NMRRC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation include such organizations as the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) under the World Health Organization, International Agency for Atomic Energy (IAEA), United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), the Organization of European Cancer Institutes (OECI), etc. Experts of the Center are members of several international organizations of oncologists, radiologists and urologists.
Cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), promoted by WHO Collaborating Centre for Radiation Epidemiology (CC), is of special importance to our efforts. The Center also participates in the international REMPAN network («Medical Preparedness for Radiological Emergencies and Assistance», know as «Radiation Emergency Medical Preparedness and Assistance Network» since 1972), and BioDozNet on the basis of A. Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center, branch of the FSBI NMRRC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, and is the only WHO Collaborating Centre in Russia on the subject.
One of the core areas of our international activities is cooperation with the CIS states in the framework of the Association of the CIS Countries Oncology Societies. The President of the Association is Professor A. Kaprin, Director General of the FSBI NMRRC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Once in two years various CIS states host congresses of the Association members to discuss topical issues and state-of-the-art achievements in oncology.
Cooperation with International Organizations
(expert work, data exchange, participation in events and conferences)
Training of scientific staff for the CIS states makes an important contribution to the development of international ties in scientific areas, diagnostics of malignant tumors, and combined and complex cancer treatment. The Center offers opportunities of clinical internship training, postgraduate and doctoral studies, as well as on-the-job training in the FSBI NMRRC of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation with the aim to introduce the Center experience in cancer research centers of the CIS countries.
Cooperation of the Center units with foreign clinics (USA National Cancer Center, Humanitas Clinic, Italy), hospitals, educational institutions and universities (Universities of Hiroshima, Nagasaki (Japan). Berlin, Hamburg, Heidelberg (Germany), Strasbourg (France) in the field of scientific research involves implementation of joint research projects, studies and clinical trials, teaching and training professionals, holding conferences and workshops, exchange of experience and scientific data exchange. Particular attention is paid to keeping the Chernobyl tissue bank together with the London Imperial College (the U. K.). The Center's specialists are the members of more than 20 scientific and professional societies, organizations and associations.
The Center successfully conducts joint research involving foreign universities, scientific and clinical centers, national academies of science and teams of researchers from Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Italy, France, Germany, the USA, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia. For a number of years, the Center has been involved in multi-center clinical trials and multi-center randomized studies on efficacy and safety of drugs.
We see to it that the Center experts participate in seminars, international forums and conferences, such as the IARC sessions, IAEA conferences, annual OECI congresses and the European Association of Urology (EAU) congresses. Over the last 5 years we have organized internships for the Center staff in clinics of France, Germany, the USA, Sweden, Hungary, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Every year international events are organized by the Center branches, such as the Congress of the Russian Oncourology Society, Interdisciplinary Congress on Head and Neck Tumors, A. Saenko International School for Young Researchers, scientific and practical conferences with international attendance on the problems of photodynamic therapy, the development of nuclear medicine, etc. These events are attended by about 200 participants from the CIS and other foreign countries, as well as international experts. We receive delegations and individuals visiting the Center for talks on cooperation, paying study visits and coming for training purposes.
International cooperation is coordinated by the International Relations Department of the Center.
